I guess Thursday left Danny and I feeling all Heart-y and Valentine-y so Saturday night we decided to revisit the scene of our second first date. Our first first date was 3 years and 4 days prior and there was a 2.5 year break in between, but that’s another post in itself.
Anyway our second first date was at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, which is my new favorite Italian place. I just love the atmosphere, the way the server writes their name upside down on your table “cloth” and the free Italian lessons that are piped into the bathroom “The food is delicious = L’alimento รจ squisito” I have tried a different dish each time I’ve been there and they have all been “squisito”.
Our main challenge this particular evening was to have a romantic dinner for two without leaving my 13 year old daughter at home and feeling guilty the whole time. We came up with a solution, presented it to her and she accepted. The plan involved inviting a dinner companion for Alannah and that companion was the effervescent Maya. So off we headed to Macaroni Grill (MG) with two giggling girls in the back seat.
We arrived at MG and the host said “Party of four?” “Two parties of two” we replied. Danny and I were led off to our romantic table for two. Alannah and Maya were led off to their not so romantic table for two – plenty of cash in hand. We were within eyeshot of each other, but not earshot. So when Alannah and Maya got their entrees before we had ordered ours there was much pointing and laughing. Danny and I did manage to make plenty of googly eyes at each other between cell phone calls to discuss dessert orders and tip figuring. It was rather lovely actually.
We had a pleasant ride home as the girls recounted their interactions with their server “I ordered an alcoholic drink and I think she would have brought it to me too” and they asked us what we talked about. I told them I told Danny how cute he was and then he told me he was just thinking how beautiful I was and I was surprised because I barely had any make up on and he said I didn’t need to get all gussied up to be beautiful.
“EWWW!” – eyes rolling – back to giggling
That is a very creative way to date with kids!
